New Delhi, March 13: A day after Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was summoned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on the Gujarat riots, BJP president Nitin Gadkari said that Modi had a tremendous potential to be a good Prime Minister of the country.
Modi, he said, has the ability, capacity and the potential to lead the country.
Modi is the favourite of all BJP leaders, with BJP patriarch L K Advani and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley never failing to shower praises on him, whenever they get the first opportunity.
With BJP president Nitin Gadkari going as far as seeing in him the potential to become the Prime Minister, one wonders whether the Sangh Parivar has already zeroed- in on Modi as the future candidate for the Prime Minister’s post. Advani, who was pitted against Manmohan Singh in the last general election, failed to wrest power from the UPA Government.
Speaking at the India Today Conclave, Gadkari said, “Modi is a role model for development politics. Look at what he has done for Gujarat. A decision on the party’s prime ministerial candidate will be taken by senior leaders and the parliamentary body, but Modi is fully competent,” Gadkari said.
By taking the Modi’s name as the future Prime Minister, Gadkari has undoubtedly floated a trial balloon, making the position difficult for other senior leaders like Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, who may be aspiring themselves for the post of Prime Minister.
