Gadkari demands JPC probe into commodity ‘scam’

Thiruvananthapuram, February 12: BJP president Nitin Gadkari today demanded a probe by a Joint Parliamentary Committee into “speculative transactions” of the commodity exchange for the runaway inflation, particularly food.

“The speculative, manipulative transactions of the commodity exchange has created artificial volume of essential commodities like wheat, sugar, chana, jeera and potato. This has pushed prices of these commodities up in the market,” he said at a meet-the-press programme here.

“I strongly demand immediate appointment of a JPC to inquire and investigate this commodity exchange-price rise Maha Ghotala (major scam),” he said.

Gadkari charged that India was facing record inflation due to the Congress-led UPA government’s wrong economic policies. “It is the failure of a great economist as Prime Minister,” he said.
