Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh): Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday inspected Polavaram project site in West Godavari district.
Governor of Andhra Pradesh & Telangana E.S.L.Narasimhan, Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Sujana Chowdhary, Amarjeet Singh, Special Secretary to Union Water resources Ministry, too accompanied them during the visit.
Polavaram is the prestigious multi-purpose irrigation project which has been accorded national project status by the Union government.
This dam across the Godavari River is under construction located in West Godavari District and East Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh and its reservoir spreads in parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha States also.
Later, Gadkari, Narasimhan and Naidu prayed at Kanak Durga Temple in Vijayawada.
Earlier in the day, Gadkari, Narasimhan and Naidu also attended a programme where Vice President Venkaiah Naidu laid the foundation stone for six highway projects.
Speaking at the occasion, Naidu praised Gadkari for his work in the highways sector.
“As a Vice President, I cannot speak politically, but I can appreciate development activities,” Naidu added.
Addressing the issue of drinking water, Naidu stressed that state government and center should work hard towards completing the multi-purpose irrigation project of Andhra Pradesh, Polavaram project as soon as possible.
He further requested political parties to cooperate in development activities, keeping aside politics for elections. (ANI)
