Gaddafi forces attack Misratah, kill 3

Tripoli, April 27: Forces loyal to Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi have launched a fresh attack on the besieged port city of Misratah, killing three people and wounding 20 others.

The people were killed as missiles slammed into the city’s port on Tuesday.

Earlier, revolutionary fighters said they had pushed Gaddafi’s troops out of the western city of Misratah after two months of heavy fighting.

The Benghazi-based National Transitional Council, however, has dismissed the reports stating the progress of the revolutionary fighters, saying Gaddafi’s forces will never let go of the city.

The humanitarian situation in Misratah has been reported to be alarming. Many residents are in dire need of food, water and medical supplies.

Human rights groups also say more than 1,000 people have been killed in the ongoing fighting in the western city.

The development came after a NATO airstrike destroyed Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi’s office in the capital, Tripoli on Monday. Reports say at least 45 people were wounded in the attack — 15 of them seriously.

Dozens of civilians have also been killed in Libya since the Western military alliance launched their attacks on the North African country.
