Mumbai, October 04: At least four security personnel, including two CRPF men, killed in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district in an IED blast triggered by Naxals on Monday.
The four were a part of a convoy returning from tour.
In Andhra Pradesh, police exchanged fire with a group of armed Maoists in Khammam district, but there were no casualties on either side.
The gunfight broke out at around 1 pm when a police team, on a combing operation, noticed movement of Naxals in the forests in Ashwaraopet mandal of the district bordering Chhattisgarh, police said.
The rebels managed to escape from the spot, they said, adding no casualties were reported from either side.
The police, however, seized one claymore mine, 20 kit bags, one hand-held communication device and Naxal literature, among other material, from the scene of the gunfight, a senior police officer told PTI over phone from Khammam.
“The firing has stopped as of now but the search operation is still continuing. There might have been at least 25 Maoists in the group,” he said.
Meanwhile, a Naxal, Puttiah alias Venkanna, who allegedly operated in Chhattisgarh, surrendered at Kothagudem in Khammam district today, police added.
