Islamabad, May 04: Funeral prayers have been held for al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in different cities of Pakistan.
One of the main congregations was in Lahore where the ‘gaibana namaz-e-janaza’ (funeral prayer in absentia since his body was not there) was led by Jama’at-ud-Da’wah (JuD) leader Hafiz Saeed.
A similar prayer was to be organised on Tuesday evening at the JuD’s mosque here but was cancelled without citing any reason. Reports from the ‘namaz-e-janaza’ in Lahore suggested that Mr. Saeed referred to bin Laden as a martyr whose blood would not go waste.
The JuD leader is also said to have referred to the sacrifices bin Laden had made to awaken the Islamic community, adding that he would remain a source of inspiration.
