Fuel price index up 12.45 pct y/y – govt

New Delhi, April 22: India’s fuel price index rose 12.45 percent in the 12 months to April 10, while the food price index rose 17.65 percent from a year ago, government data showed on Thursday.

The rise in the fuel price index was slightly higher than an annual rise of 12.43 percent in the previous week.

The primary articles index was up 14.14 percent year-on-year on April 10, while the food inflation was higher than an annual rise of 17.22 percent in the previous week, suggesting it has peaked.

India’s central bank on Tuesday raised key interest rates by 25 basis points and said further rises were likely as it moves to return monetary policy towards pre-crisis settings and battles near double-digit inflation.

India’s wholesale price index (WPI) rose an annual 9.90 percent in March, the fastest pace in 17 months, driven by higher food and fuel prices.
