New Delhi, March 11: The Fashion TV channel was today banned by the Government for a period of 10 days from tomorrow evening for showing “obscene visuals”.
The Ministry for Information and Broadcasting prohibited transmission of FTV channel for 10 days applicable from evening of March 12, for violating rules under the Cable TV Act by showing such visuals, official sources said.
They said the Ministry had observed that FTV had violated several provisions of the Cable Television Networks Rules, 1994 by telecasting on September 4, 2009 a programme in which it showed women in an “obscene” manner. The Ministry felt that it denigrated women and the visuals were not suitable for children and unrestricted public exhibition.
It has prohibited the channel”s transmission from 7 pm on March 12 till 7 pm on March 21 through cable television networks and any other platform throughout the country. The decision to prohibit the transmission was taken under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995.
In the past too, the Ministry had stopped transmission of the channel for a period of two months between May-June 2007 on grounds of telecasting programmes such as ”Midnight Hot” wherein skimpily-clad models were shown. That ban was, however, revoked on May 25, 2007 after the channel regretted their error and assured that it will not be repeated in future.
