In a new twist in the FTII controversy, now the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has called the striking students to discuss the demand for removal of TV actor Gajendra Chauhan from the post of chairman.
Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Director D J Narain told PTI today that the tentative date suggested for a dialogue with the agitating students is July 3, which has been conveyed to the the FTII Students’ Association, spearheading the strike, which has entered the 17th day.
“The Students’ Association will let us know their response to the ministry’s invitation, after which the date for talks to be held in Delhi will be finalised,” he added.
The FTII students have been protesting against the appointment of Chauhan, saying he lacked “stature and vision” to head the premiere institution.
A students’ association spokesman said they were still deliberating on composition of the delegation for the proposed talks and the date could only be confirmed thereafter.
