Sadat Ali Khan, 59, the former District Sales Manager of Air India, passed away on March 10 after a protracted illness. Khan battled cancer for the last three years.
Khan was buried in Al-Mualla cemetery in Makkah after funeral prayers at the Grand Mosque thanks to the efforts of the Indian Consul General Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, who was present during the burial.
Khan is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.
Khan was born on June 25, 1954, in the central Indian city of Bhopal. His initial education was from Hamidiya School and then Barkatullah University.
He first joined Worldwide Travel Agency in New Delhi in 1974 and was with them till 1978. He then joined Saudi Arabian Airlines in New Delhi where he worked for four years.
He then moved to Saudi Arabia in 1982 to work for KLM before joining Air India in 1986 as sales manager for Western Region and worked with the airline till 2010.
Air India management and government officials from India and Saudi Arabia appreciated his hard work and dedication.
Though formally retired on June 30, 2010, Khan continued to work for Air India on contract basis till January 2013. He was appointed as a consultant for Haj Affairs for a period of three years from 2010.
On behalf of Air India, the management and staff offered their heartfelt condolences to the family members and prayed to the Almighty Allah to give peace to the departed soul.
Khan won accolades for his committed service, particularly to the travel industry.
He was also active in social and community organizations such as the India Forum, Khak-e-Taiba Trust, Jeddah Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and others.
