Hitherto Muslim staff and passengers were forced to offer Friday prayer under scorching sun at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Staff, passengers and their relatives made repeated representations with government and airport authorities but in vain.
However the day before Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali convened a meeting with high officials of GMR. He directed the officials to erect tent at the place where the Friday prayers were offered. Airport administration agreed to the proposal and tent was erected on April 24 much to the relief of musallis. Airport staff and passengers offered the prayer under the tent. Imam and Khateeb Maulana Mohammed Riyaz delivered the Friday sermon and led the prayer.
