Fresh violence in Kishtwar, 6 injured

Six people were injured on Monday in fresh clashes between the protesters and the police in strife-torn Kishtwar town of Jammu and Kashmir.

Violence erupted on Friday after Eid prayers in Kishtwar as two communities clashed with each other. The clashes in Kishtwar have left three people dead and 30 injured.

The development came as Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, who is looking after the Home Ministry in the absence of Sushilkumar Shinde, informed Parliament that three people were killed in clashes in the Jammu region.

The minister told the Rajya Sabha that the situation in the violence-hit Jammu region has been brought under control, and three lives have been lost.

“So far, two Muslims and one Hindu have died in the clashes. All of us are Indians. Three Indian lives have been lost and that is a matter of great regret,” Chidambaram said.

Chidambaram added that the government will not allow repetition of 1990.
