Muzaffarnagar, February 18: A local court has issued a fresh notice to the Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid to appear before it in a case of alleged violation of the model code in the 2007 Assembly elections in UP.
Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari had reportedly used a helicopter, without permission, while campaigning for United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Sabir Ali from the Khatoli constituency in the elections.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate Sunil Kumar Arya has fixed April 7 for the imam to appear in the court and directed him to appear before it for the next hearing.
On the election commissions’ directive, a case has already been registered against Bukhari, Ali and a member of Jama Masjid Advisory Committee Inam Qureshi.
