Hyderabad, January 26: In order to prevent the country from slowing down the progress, it is necessary to conduct election only once during a span of 5 years. Frequent by-elections are hampering the progress of the country.
This proposal was made by Governor of A.P. Mr. E.S.L. Narasimhan while addressing a gathering at Ravindra Bharathi on the occasion of ‘Voters’ Day’ celebration.
He said that the voters play a pivotal role in strengthening democracy provided they elect representatives of good character. He suggested that Election Commission should select a constituency and conduct election without fanfare as a pilot project so that its results could be reviewed. In case this project becomes successful it could be implemented in the entire country. He advised the electorate of A.P. to elect candidates with clean record of character so that the protection of democracy could be ensured.
