Frenzied Kolkata seek repeat of 1983

Kolkata, April 02: For the second time in the week, Kolkata today witnessed near-empty roads with people glued to TV sets while die-hard fans offered prayers for India’s World Cup final victory over Sri Lanka in Mumbai.

The now-or-never feeling caught up with everyone as they believed this was India’s best chance to repeat the feat of ‘Kapil’s Devils’ 28 years ago.

Chirag United coach Subrata Bhattacharya has a crucial I-League match tomorrow but the former India footballer was also seen caught up with cricket fever.

“Everybody is watching cricket and I am not spared. We have all things favouring us, be the conditions or the form factor…. We have the best chance this time around. I want India to win be it in cricket, football or hockey,” Bhattacharya told PTI.
