Djibouti: The French police here on Friday detained a suspect, Peter Cherif, associated with the Charlie Hebdo attackers who shot dead 12 people at the newspaper’s office in Paris on January 7, 2015.
A French law enforcement official told CNN that Peter is linked to the two brothers – Cherif and Said Kouachi – who carried out the terror attack in retaliation of the newspaper’s depiction of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
In 2015, Paris witnessed three days of terror, from January 7 to January 9, when a total of 17 people (including three suspects) were shot dead. The incident led to almost 3.7 million people carrying out anti-terrorism demonstrations across France on January 11, 2015.
The police are yet to announce if and when Peter will be taken to France. The exact role carried out by Peter in the attacks has also not been made known yet.
