Incessant snowfall has frozen life in Kashmir, prolonged power cuts and jamming of the arterial highway resulting in scanty supplies in the valley.
Roads in Kijpora village in Ganderbal District were blocked due to heavy snowfall and residents braving the chill made their way through slippery paths to reach work places.
People suffer due to prolonged cuts as electricity poles, wires and transformers are snow-laden resulting in chilly dark nights.
Frequent jamming of the National-Highway, which is the arterial road link that connects Kashmir with rest of the country, due to non-stop snowfall makes life tough as essential supplies do not reach the valley on time.
An anxious resident Ashfaq said daily commuting has become troublesome due to continuous snowfall as public transport vehicles remain off the roads.
“Roads get cut off and we face a lot of electricity problems because the wires, transformer get damaged. There is a huge problem for cooking gas as well. You can see that the roads are blocked now as well. There are no vehicles on the road. A vehicle comes after half an hour,” said Ashfaq, a resident.
Road authorities said snow clearing work was underway.
“We are doing the cleaning wherever the beacon machines can reach but the places where it is not possible we are cleaning them with the help of tractors and even manually,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner in Ganderbal district, Ravinder Kumar.
