Free power to be extended to farmers with Tatkal schemes: CM

West Godavari/Krishna, February 4: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday promised to extend the facility of free power to farmers having power connections under the ‘Tatkal’ scheme.

Talking to media persons after participating in a Racha Banda programme held at Supriyanpeta in Chintalpudi mandal in the district, the Chief Minister said that over 28 lakh farmers were enjoying free power extended by the government for agriculture.

He said the free power would be extended to farmers having power connections under the `Tatkal’ scheme considering the prevalent harsh conditions.

The Chief Minister said the government was making complete efforts to get National Project status for Polavaram Irrigation Project being constructed on Godavari River in West Godavari district.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy called upon women and Self-Help Groups to avail the Pavala Vaddi scheme instead of falling trap of microfinance institutions which charge heavy interest.

Later speaking at Racha Banda in Madaka in Pedana mandal in Krishna district, the Chief Minister said the government will collect experts and Opposition leaders’ opinion before filing a writ petition on Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal verdict on Krishna waters.

The government will seek their advice but would not listen to terms dictated by leaders of parties, if they go against the interests of farmers, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy averred.

The Chief Minister said that he would conduct a review meeting with officials concerned on Bandar Port development works soon.

He also said the government will make efforts to establish a textile park in Pedana
