A free mega surgical camp for poor

Hyderabad, January 29: The Lions Club of Hyderabad Greenland, Mahavir Hospital and Research Centre, Mercy Missions, Michigan, USA and the SERP Indira Kranthi Patham, have come together to organise a “free Mega Surgical Camp” for the poor at the Mahavir Hospital, here from January 30 to February 5.

“As part of the free Mega Surgical camp, plastic surgeries would be undertaken for cleft lip, cleft palate, burns contractures, hand surgeries, general surgeries for hernias, hydrocele, Gall Bladder, thyroid, breast tumors, parotid tumors, rectal fistula, anal fissures, lymph adenopathy, polynoid cysts gynecological surgeries for hysterectomy, fibroids, urinary incontinence, uterine prolapses and so on, said the District chairman, Lions Club of Hyderabad Greenland, Mr Vidya Bhushan, told mediapersons here on Friday.

Mr Vidya Bhushan said that these facilities of free treatment were available for the poor people all over the State. He also said that the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty would mobilise patients from the far-flung areas in districts like Srikakulam and Vizianagaram.

Referring to the Mercy Missions, he said that Dr Sudarshan Reddy, Dr Bhavani Prasad Garapati, Dr Schnider and Mr Laura Kerby have come together to form this non-religious and no-sectarian organisation to serve a large number of people in developing countries all over the world, including India and it was providing them with medical help by doing free surgeries and giving free medicines. He also said that it would even bring gifts from the USA to present them to the patients.

He said that a team of 15 members of Mercy Missions would be in the City from January 30 to February 9 for the benevolent cause. He also said that a similar free medical camp would be held in Nizamabad district from February 6 to 9.

Stating that since January 2000, the “free medical surgical camp” has been organised and some 1,200 surgeries have been performed so far.

The former president, Lions Club, Dr Vikram Reddy, and the treasurer, Loins Club, Mr J B Gopala Krishna, were also present.
