Free health camp for flood-hit people in Assam

A free medical camp has been organised by the Asom Jatiyabada Yuva Chattra Parishad (AJYCP) in collaboration with Joint Director of Health in Jorhat district at the flood -hit Nimati Bitor Kokilamukh village and adjoining villages.

Heavy rainfall along the upstream of Arunachal Pradesh and breached of embankment of River Bhogdoi have displaced residents of more than 60 villages in Jorhat district alone, besides causing damage to thousands of hectares of standing crops.

A large number of flood affected people and sick persons were treated and free medicines were distributed at the health camp.

Some of the villages are still reeling under the inundated flood water. Few villagers have return to their respective village after the condition has returned to near normalcy.

According to Dr. S.K. Baruah, water borne diseases are very common during floods.

The River Brahmaputra is still flowing above danger level in Nimati Ghat area. According to Inland Water Department official, the normal level is 85.04 metre but since yesterday the water level is rising steadily.

“Yesterday, the water level was 85.55m but today, till late afternoon the level has increased upto 85.68m which means the river if flowing 64cm above danger level. River Dolphins were seen taking shelter nearby the Inland Water Department office at Nimati Ghat for the past 4-5 days,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner of one of the worst hit Jorhat district informed that situation is limping back to normalcy slightly.

Official sources said that one lakh 77 thousand people have been affected in 7 districts.

Flood water also submerged agriculture land and disrupted surface communication.

Twenty five relief camps have been set up in Jorhat, Biswanath and Golaghat districts. Relief materials are being distributed at flood hit areas.

Medical teams have also been deployed to prevent water borne diseases.
