Fraud arrested on ‘home-coming’

Srinagar, March 08: He came to the family as its missing Javid who disappeared 20 years ago. But, the home-coming was short-lived as a suspecting mother insisted on a DNA test and the fraud is now cooling his heels behind the bars.

March 4 was the happiest day for Dar family at Zero Bridge here when truck driver Maroof brought ‘Javid’, the missing son of the Ghulam Rasool Dar and Suraiya, home after 20 years. The surprised family received him with celebrations.

However, the joy did not last long as the man turned out to be Abdul Majeed Dar of Gund Ibrahim-Pattan in Baramulla district. He was handed over to police by the family after he confessed that he was not their missing son but had pretended to be Javid to live a luxurious life.
