France deploys fighter jets off Bahrain to launch air strikes against IS in Iraq

France has reportedly deployed aircraft carrier off Bahrain, to conduct attacks against the Islamic State (IS) as part of Operation Chammal, which was launched by the French government in September last year to back the U.S.-led coalition’s campaign against the terror group.

A spokesman for Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said that aircrafts from the Charles de Gaulle carrier will be used to target IS in Iraq, reported the BBC.

The first Rafale fighter jet departed on Monday morning from the carrier as it sailed about 200 km (120 miles) off the northern coast of Bahrain.

The report said that the deployment of fighter jets will halve the time it takes for military aircraft, which normally fly from the United Arab Emirates to reach Iraq. (ANI)
