Four sugar godowns sealed in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, January 14: In a crackdown on hoarders, Gujarat Food and Civil Supplies Department sealed four sugar godowns in the wee hours today near here, officials said.

“We have sealed four godowns having a large quantity of sugar in APMC Jetalpur market, while documents related to 750 bags of sugar containing around 75,000 kg, valued at Rs 30.75 lakh (at Rs 41 per kg) and stocked in another godown, are being verified,” a department official told.

The godowns sealed during raids on suspected hoarders of the sweetener are likely to be opened tomorrow in presence of senior department officials, he said.

The senior officials will probe the violation of control order issued by the state government to curb the rising price of sugar, he added. “Last week, the department had seized 15,500 kgs of sugar valued at Rs 6.5 lakh from the godown of a trader in Kalupur,” he added.
