Hyderabad, March 08: Four students of a leading school in Begumpet were caught allegedly smoking hookah in the school campus by school authorities on Monday. The situation took an ugly turn with parents of one boy alleging the school management was supplying drugs secretly to the children.
According to police, security guards caught four students smoking hookah behind a hedge in the campus. “Classes ended around 1.30 p.m and security guards found students smoking hookah in the bushy area behind classrooms and handed them over to authorities,’’ Begumpet police inspector A Yadagiri said. The students are studying in Class X.
The school management summoned parents of the students and counselled both parents and students. “One of the parents, however, created a stir by alleging the school management were supplying drugs to the children,’’ the inspector said. On examination, it was found the hookah did not contain any drugs and it was regular tobacco. “As there was no drugs in the hookah, we did not register any case,’’ Yadagiri said.
Police said they would verify source of the hookah from students. “The students had left by the time we received the complaint. We will speak to them on Tuesday,’’ the inspector said.
