On January 19, a widow of 35-year-old was gangraped by four men in Pendurthi in the city. The Pendurthi police caught the accused on Wednesday.
According to the police, the woman who was from Pendurthi and her male friend were homecoming, sat down on the way to have a discussion. The place was deserted.
The four accused — K. Ramana and P. Ramesh, both convicted in a theft case, and their friends A. Vara Prasad and P. Mahesh — trounced the man and tied him up while they raped the woman. They freed both of them at around 10 pm and warned them not to make a complaint to the police.
The woman mustered up the courage to file a complaint with the Pendurthi police on January 23. According to the victim, she suspected that the leader of the gang was a thief.
A police team zeroed in on K. Ramana, and during interrogation, he unveiled the names of the other three. All four were arrested under Section 376 (D) of the IPC.
