Four-lane roads to connect districts to Hyderabad

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday directed the officials to lay four lane roads from each district connecting Hyderabad, the State capital.

During a review meeting with senior officials of Panchayat Raj and Roads and Buildings here, the Chief Minister asked them to lay two-lane roads to connect mandals with district headquarters. He also asked them to execute all pending works by May next year by completing the formalities by this month-end. He also issued directions for release of Rs 700 crore arrears of Panchayat Raj Department. He exhorted the officials to maintain high quality while taking up construction and repair of roads.

The Panchayat Raj Department has proposed to construct 385 kilometres of roads in each of 100 Assembly constituencies. It includes repair of 14,500 km roads, conversion of 4,160 km metal roads into BT roads, 20,000 km of gravel roads into metal roads. These works would be taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 24,000 crore. Bridges and cause ways will also be constructed at a cost of Rs 250 crore. (INN)
