Sambalpur: Four persons, including a one-and-half-year-old girl, were killed and two other suffered injuries after their SUV hit a roadside tree at Khunti in Sambalpur district early today.
The accident occurred when Gopinath Kisan, a junior engineer with the state PWD in Rayagada district, was going to his village Khansar in Sambalpur district along with his family, police said.
The family had started on Wednesday afternoon and the driver probably dozed off leading to the accident, police said.
The deceased were identified as Gopinath Kisan’s wife Tapaswini (30), his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Gyananda, Tapaswini’s aunt Binapani Kisan (40), and the driver Sanjaya Matangi (35).
Gopinath and another driver Madan Naik suffered injuries and were hospitalised, police said.
