Four killed in Lucknow accident

Lucknow, September 13: Four people were killed and six critically injured when a sports utility vehicle (SUV) jumped over the road divider and hit a car near here Sunday evening, police said.

The accident took place barely two kilometres from the Amausi airport on the Lucknow-Kanpur national highway, halting the traffic on the busy road for about an hour.

“A Mahindra Xylo going towards Kanpur collided head-on with a Maruti Zen car. Three occupants of the car, including a woman, died on the spot and one passenger from the Xylo died in the hospital,” inspector Abhishek Sirohi of Sarojininagar police station told IANS.

“The SUV was moving at a speed of over 100 kmph. After hitting the divider at a cut, it jumped off the road and landed upon the car,” Jai Shanker, an eyewitness, said.

Six other occupants of the Xylo were seriously injured.
