Four killed, 22 injured in Afghan blast

Kabul, August 27: At least four people have been killed and 22 others injured after a bomber blew-up an explosives-laden car in Afghanistan’s southern Helmand province, police say.

Kamaluddin Sherzad, the deputy police chief of Lashkar Gah, said that the explosion occurred “near Kabul Bank and the telecommunications office some 50 meters from the governor’s office,” AFP reported.

“Heavy casualties are feared,” the official said.

Sherzad said that the blast took place when “many people had gathered at Kabul Bank to collect their salaries ahead of the Eid festival.”

No group has claimed responsibility, but the Taliban have often targeted soldiers and police in the country.

In February, a Taliban bomber attacked a branch of the same bank east of the country, killing more than 40 people.
