Abu Dhabi, August 11: The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced four men to two years each in jail, to be followed by deportation for robbery, kidnapping, intimidation and posing as police officials.
The court also slapped a fine of Dh1,000 each on two others for covering up for the four suspects and refraining from informing the police on the crimes.
According to the indictment sheet, the four men had stopped a passer-by on the main road, and asked him to get into their car after claiming they were from the Criminal Investigation Department of Abu Dhabi Police.
They gagged his mouth to prevent him with intention of robbing him, the court heard.
The four suspects took the cash in his possession and his mobile telephone.
The public prosecution charged the fourth suspect of bullying and instigating the others to commit the crime.
The other two men, the fifth and sixth accused were accused of a cover-up after knowing what the four men were planning and what they did later, and for not informing the Police.
All the suspects had confessed, when interrogated by the public prosecution, to the charges.
In its verdict, the court said the six men posed a danger to the society, and were likely to commit other crimes.
