Kolkata, March 26: Four Information Technology (IT) firm employees, three of them women, were killed and five others injured Saturday after their car swerved off a bridge and plunged into a pool of water in West Bengal’s South 24-Parganas district, police said.
“Nine employees of IT firm AEGIS were going to their office in the IT hub in the car early Saturday. The car was going at a high speed. The driver lost control over the vehicle while crossing a bridge near Chingrighata in the district and the car plunged into a pool of water,” said South 24-Paraganas Additional Police Superintendent (Industrial) Murli Dhar.
“Three women, aged between 25-26 years, died on the spot and one man succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital. The five injured were rushed to the National Medical College and Hospital in the city,” said Dhar.
Preliminary investigation revealed the women died of suffocation, he said.
The employees boarded the vehicle at Tollygunge, Dhar said, adding all of them were identified.
