Hyderabad: Task Force personnel of North Zone, along with local police, conducted simultaneous raids under the limits of Abids and Kulsumpura police stations and busted two organized Cricket betting racket gangs and apprehended four bookies. They also seized a cash of Rs 7.72 lakh, two TV sets, two set top boxes, ten Cell phones and a calculator at the instance of the accused.
Police said main accused Suresh Kumar Vyas formed a gang with Pawan Agarwal, Santosh Kumar Varma and Navrkale Lakhan. Police said Suresh Kumar Vyas, 56, was organizing cricket betting at MS Associates Furniture sales shop beside Kamath Hotel, Abids. Santosh Kumar Varma alias Santosh, 42, of Shivarampally was organizing cricket betting at Yellamma temple, Ziaguda. Navrkale Lakhan, 28, was working as a bookie. They said Suresh Kumar Vyas used to collect betting amounts from sub-bookies Pawan Agarwal, Santosh Kumar Varma.
During T20 Tri series final match between India and Bangladesh held at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, Srilanka, the accused were collecting huge betting amounts from agents and punters directly and indirectly during the final match on Sunday evening. On a tip-off, the sleuths of Commissioner’s Task Force, North Zone Team, Hyderabad along with local police raided the betting premises under the limits of Abids, Kulsumpura PS, apprehended two organized betting gangs and seized incriminating materials.
