Hyderabad: SOT sleuths of Malkajgiri Zone, along with Ghatkesar police, arrested four persons for indulging in cricket betting. Two assistant bookies and two collection agents were apprehended while two main bookies were absconding. The police seized Rs 7.8 lakh cash, six mobile phones from their possession.
Police said Aziz and Hussain, residents of Kompally and Begumpet respectively, were operating Cricket betting racket in connivance with main bookie at Gujarat. Both were accepting cricket bettings on the ongoing IPL 2018 matches and collecting money from the punters through their agents and also depositing into their bank accounts.
On the tip-off, the sleuths apprehended Satyanarayana of Ghatkesar and Rahim Vasaya at Ghatkesar for betting money and also for collecting money from the punters for ongoing IPL match between RCB Vs SRH on May 17. The police found Rs1.6 lakh cash in the possession of Satyanarayana and Rahim Vasaya. On further information, one Metron and Prem Kumar Swamy were also apprehended for collecting cricket betting money from the punters. On apprehension of Metron at Secunderabad, police found Rs 6.2 lakh cash in his possession.
The accused along with seized material were handed over to SHO, Ghatkesar. (NSS)
