Four farmers injured in police lathicharge

Nashik, April 15: Four farmers were injured when police resorted to lathicharge to disperse farmers protesting land acquisition for a proposed special economic zone (SEZ) near here in North Maharashtra, police said.

A group of farmers, whose lands are being acquired for SEZ to be developed by Indiabulls, gathered at Sinnar when a team of officials arrived there for land acquisition process, they said.

As they were protesting, police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the group, which also unsuccessfully attempted to lock up policemen in a temple, they said.

Four farmers were injured in the cane-charge, while a Sub-Inspector was hurt in a scuffle with the protesters, police added.
