Chennai, July 14: Four persons were today arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle red sanders logs, valued at about Rs 3.68 in the international market, to China, official sources said here.
DRI officials, on the basis of intelligence report, identified a truck with a container parked in Muthangai village at Patancheru in Hyderabad yesterday. When they opened the container, they found that it contained 288 red sanders logs, weighing about eight metric tonnes, a Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) release said.
During the course of followup, Saravanan (31), Pandian (41), G Moorthy (43) and Bhaskaran (44), all hailing from Chennai, were apprehended and remanded in judicial custody.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the goods were loaded in Madhavaram area near the city and transported to Hyderabad in the truck for smuggling to China.
