New Delhi, June 19: Four persons, including a debt- ridden driver, have been arrested for allegedly murdering and looting over Rs 8 lakh from a Kargil war veteran who tried to resist their robbery bid, police said here today.
The four-prime accused Rakesh Kumar (29) and his associates Harish Gupta, Vinay Bhargava, and Basant Kumar-Swere arrested last night from Karbala area in Lodhi colony, Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal told reporters.
“After an extensive investigation, we got a tip off and arrested the four from Karbala area in Lodhi colony last night when they were planning to rob a petrol pump at Aurbindo Marg,” the Commissioner said.
On June 15, the four have shot dead Kargil war veteran Baldev Singh, who was employed as a caretaker at a petrol pump in Yamuna Vihar, when he was on way to a bank to deposit Rs 8.5 lakh.
They had fled the spot with the cash after murdering Singh, he said adding the conspiracy was hatched by Kumar to repay a bank loan which he had taken to buy a car.
“The accused was depressed over not being able to pay back the loan and had even planned to commit suicide,” Dadwal said.
