Four arrested for attacking Muslim youths in old city

Police have arrested four motor mechanics, including a juvenile offender, for assaulting and injuring two persons in Uppuguda on Tuesday night.

Chatrinaka police arrested J Saibaba, 20, J Saikiran, 19, both belonging to Narahari Nagar, M Naveen, 19, of Mukkara Basthi and another 17-year-old youth in Uppuguda. On Tuesday evening, a group of students, including Syed Faisal Hussain, 20, Mohammed Mubeen, 18, Mohammed Saleem, 16 and Mohammed Jabbar, 14, from Rakshapuram colony went to Begumpet to attend a job interview. Afterwards, the group boarded an MMTS train at Sanjeevaiah Park railway station to reach Uppuguda.

At Secunderabad railway station, the 17-year-old mechanic got onto the same coach. As the minor was wearing a black T shirt with black trousers, the other group teased him. All the youngsters disembarked at the Uppuguda railway station, where they had an altercation. During the argument, Mubeen punched the minor in the face. The fight, however, was broken up by other passengers.

But the enraged minor followed the students who were making their way back to Rakshapuram Colony. He called up his friends who were playing cricket in the same area and told them about the incident, whereupon the group surrounded the students and attacked them with wickets. They fled away when local shopkeepers intervened.

The victims suffered minor injuries in the attack. Based on a complaint lodged by Faisal, the Chatrinaka police have registered a case against the four mechanics under section 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arrested them. The minor was produced before the juvenile board, while the remaining three were produced before court and remanded in judicial custody.
