Foundation for YSR Memorial in September

Hyderabad, July 04: The foundation stone for the YS Rajasekhara Reddy Memorial will be laid by chief minister K Rosaiah on September 2.

This was decided here today by the cabinet subcommittee appointed to oversee the construction of the memorial. Subcommittee members — municipal administration and urban development minister A Ramanarayana Reddy, information and public relations minister J Geetha Reddy, home minister Sabitha Reddy and health minister D Nagendar held discussions on Saturday.

The memorial will be constructed on the Necklace Road in a 20acre area. It will reflect various aspects of former chief minister’s life. The memorial will extend from the Dr Car area (adjacent to Prasad’s) to the Lake View Park on the Necklace Road.

It will be constructed as per the directions of the Supreme Court which stipulated that no permanent construction take place in the vicinity of the Hussainsagar. The memorial will be designed by famous consultants. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority has been entrusted with the construction work and it has already called tenders to which five bidders responded. Of them, three were shortlisted and one name will be forwarded to the chief minister for his approval.

The ministers decided that the consent of YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s family members should be taken for the design of the memorial.
