New Delhi/Gugaon : Fortis La Femme in association with the Breast Milk Bank Foundation will launch the Delhi-NCR’s first human milk bank on April 26.
This joint initiative milk bank has been called as “Amaara”, and will be formally launched at 11.30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Mr. Bhavdeep Singh, CEO of Fortis Healthcare will attend the inauguration, which will be followed by a press conference.
Fortis La Femme has been delivering high quality clinical care for the past 11 years, and is established as a Centre of Excellence for mother and child care.
The tertiary care Level 3 NICU at Fortis La Femme has been instrumental in saving the lives of innumerable ill and premature infants, and is the chosen referral tertiary care centre across NCR for neonatal care.
While clinical studies have proven the efficacy of mothers’ milk, especially in pre term babies, human breast milk banking is still at a very nascent stage in India with very few milk banks (mostly in Rajasthan and Pune), largely in the public health sector.
The core program of the Amaara Milk Bank will include not just the collection, processing and distribution of donated milk, but collaboration with government bodies and non-government organisations to promote awareness of breastfeeding and acceptance of donor milk.
Other issues related to breast milk donation such as how to breast feed your preterm infant; how good or beneficial is breast milk; what is a human milk bank; who can donate breast milk and benefits of human milk banking will also be highlighted during the event. (ANI)
