Former SIMI chief brought to Hyderabad

Hyderabad, July 19: In a secret operation the sleuths of Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID) today remanded the Syed Salahuddin Salar, former all India president of the banned Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) in the November 2002 Dilsukhnagar Sri Saibaba Temple bomb blast case.

The former SIMI president was produced before the Jubilee Hills Car Bomb Blast Case-cum-Additional Family Court, at Nampally Criminal courts in Hyderabad. The 40 year old Salar hails from Nalgonda District is a Civil Engineer by profession and fled to Gulf countries around 10 years ago, on June 26 he was arrested by the Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad the at the Kochi international airport as he arrived from Dubai.

According to the sources Salar was shifted to Hyderabad last night on a Prisoners Transit warrant and was bought to Nampally criminal court and produced before the Jubilee Hills Car Bomb Blast Case-cum-Additional Family Court, as the concerned judge was not available the in charge court sent him to 14 days judicial custody. The CID is likely to take Salar in the police custody for further interrogation.

On 21.11.2002 there was an explosion in front of Sri Sai Baba temple at Dilsukhnagar, Hyderabad. In this blast one Padma and Bhanu Prakash Reddy died of injuries received in the explosion. While 20 others received injuries in the said explosion.

The Saroonagar Police registered a case but keeping in view of the wider complicity of the case involving alleged Lashkar militants the state police handed over the investigation to the CB-CID. The CID Police have arrested Mohd.Irfan Ali Khan, Syed Abdul Nayeem, Abdul Razaak Masood, Syed Akhil, Anees Mohiuddin and Altaf Ahmed under section 3 of POTA law, where as another two accused Mohammed Azam and Syed Azeez were killed in encounter.

The Investigating agency claimed that the Abdul Bari @ Abu Hamza a Lashkar-E-Taiba operative who is still absconding has orchestrated the blast near Sai Baba temple with an intention to cause communal disharmony in India.
