Bhubaneswar, February 16:Orissa’s former Ranji captain Pravanjan Mallick, who was yesterday arrested by police for allegedly beating his wife was today forwarded to judicial custody after his bail petition was rejected by a local court.
Mallick was arrested after a case was registered against him under section 498(A) (torture), 323 (assault) and 307 (attempt to murder) based on the complaint lodged by his wife Sini Mohanty.
“Mallick was arrested after police found prima facie evidence on the complaint made by his wife Sini Mohanty,” DCP H K Lal said adding that medical examination on the wife’s injuries confirmed that they were fresh.
Pravanjan and she were staying separately for over a year and a case of divorce was under the consideration of the court, Sini Mohanty said.
“He asked me to meet on the pretext of Valentine Day.
After I entered into his car, Pravanjan beat me. He was completely under influence of alcohol,” she told reporters.
Sini also alleged that her husband used to beat her earlier.
However, Mallick and his family members refused to give any statement on the matter.
