Former ousted South Korean President sentenced to 24 years prison term

Seoul: The former ousted South Korean President Park Geun Hye is sentenced to 24 years of imprisonment by the South Korean Court today.

The Seoul Central District Court’s Judge Kim Se-Yun found Ms. Park guilty of abusing her power and pronounced its verdict on Friday sentencing her 24 years of imprisonment while the Prosecutors demanded 30-year prison term.

Ms. Park was arrested in March last year and since then she was held at a detention center near Seoul, Indian Express reported.

Ms. Park was ousted from her duties as a president early last year following months of massive rallies demanding her ouster.

Ms. Park was named as “Queen of Elections” by local media for leading her party to victory in tough competition from the opposition.

She says she’s the victim of “political revenge” and maintains her innocence.
