New York, March 01: A Former New York City police officer was sentenced to 21 years and 10 months in prison for raping several young girls who studied at his martial arts school in New Jersey, the US Attorney in Manhattan said today.
Trent Young, 42, was arrested in January of 2008 after a 15-year-old girl, and her family notified law enforcement officials that she had been raped repeatedly by Young. She said Young first raped her in December of 2005. She said he raped her 20 to 40 additional times over the course of 2006 and 2007 in various locations including the studio and at his home.
She said he had made her sign an oath of obedience before the assaults began.
In the course of the investigation, law enforcement found two other minors had been assaulted by Young.
Young, who is married, was assigned to the 26th Precinct in upper Manhattan at the time of his arrest. He had been in the NYPD for nine years and before joining the police force had worked as a schoolteacher.
Federal Court Judge Kenneth Karas, in sentencing Young, called the prison term “extraordinarily high” but appropriate in terms of what he did to the youngsters he assaulted.
