Nobel Prize – winner scientist Professor Peter Higgs has said that he first heard about his winning the prestigious award, when a woman congratulated him on the street.
He said that a former neighbour, the widow of a judge, came out of her car in Edinburgh while he was returning from lunch and introduced herself.
He said that she congratulated him and told him that her daughter called her from London to alert her to the fact that Higgs had in fact won the prize, News.com.au reported.
Higgs said that he heard more about it when he got home and started reading the messages.
Higgs was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics for his work on the theory of the particle that shares his name, the Higgs boson. ANI)
