Former National level wrestler arrested for raping a 16-year-old

New Delhi: Delhi Police was successful in nabbing a 46-yr-old accused of raping a 16-yr-old kabaddi player on Tuesday.

The accused Naresh Daiya, is a former national level wrestler hailing from Karala village, and trains wrestlers at Chhatarsaaal stadium.

According to the 16-yr-old victim, who claims to be a national level kabaddi player, the accused took her to his house on 9 July on the pretext of introducing the young player to his friends and sexually abused her.

Though she was afraid to report the incident, the victim approached the Model Town Police station to register her complaint on Monday.

According to the sources, Naresh also gave training to wrestlers at his owned akhada in Shahbad Dairy area. “The arrest of Dahiya was made after police traced him with the help of technical surveillance. During interrogation, the accused has admitted his crime” said the sources.

The victim in her complaint said she met a Naresh a few weeks ago, who then pretended to be a senior official at the Chhatrasal Stadium. “She claimed that the incident took place on July 9 when the accused picked her up from outside Chhatrasal Stadium in his car and took her to a flat in Rohini on the pretext of introducing her to a few of his friends,” said a police official.

The victim further stated she fell unconscious after consuming the drinks Naresh has offered her and later on gaining consciousness realized she had been raped.

“After committing the crime, the accused threatened her of dire consequences and then dropped her off at a bus stand” said the official.

“After receiving the complaint, the girl was sent for medical examination at Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, which confirmed rape. Based on the girl’s statement, a case under section 376 (rape) of the IPC, and several sections of the POCSO Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act) was registered at Model Town police station,” the officer added.
