Hyderabad, April 09: In a case of land disputes going out of control, a former legislator opened three rounds of fire into the air at Banjara Hills on Sunday to stop the demolition of a portion of a house which he claims as his.
B Rama Rao, who represented Jaggaiahpeta constituency in Krishna district in late 1970’s, however, claimed that his rivals and their associates had attacked him with stones when he went to the disputed site forcing him to open fire from his licenced revolver for self-defence.
According to police, Rama Rao purchased the 314/A plot in MLA Colony at Banjara Hills several years ago through a registered Society. He reportedly sold the plot to a woman, Jayasri Rao, who is the kin of another senior politician from Krishna district.
But later disputes arose and the matter went into legal wrangles.
Disputes also cropped up over the ownership of a 260 square yards of land south of the plot between the two parties.
Banjara Hills assistant commissioner of police R Ravindar Reddy said the case went to the Supreme Court which ruled in favour of Jayasri Rao who was given the ownership of the plot and adjacent land.
“After taking possession of the property, Jayasri Rao demolished almost 90 per cent of the house. The remaining portion was being demolished on Sunday when Rama Rao went there. We are veryfying his claim that he was attacked with stones prompting him to open fire,” Ravinder Reddy said.
Rama Rao alleged that Jayasri Rao and others had trespassed into a portion of land owned by him.
He later surrendered before the police. Based on a complaint by Jayasri Rao, a case was registered against him and he has reportedly been taken into custody for questioning.
