Thrissur, August 12: Veteran CPI leader and former Kerala minister K P Prabhakaran died here at the age of 84.
Prabhakaran, who was suffering from age-related ailments, died at his residence at Anthikkad last night, his family said.
He is survived by wife and five sons, including K P Rajendran, who is the state Revenue Minister.
In his early political life, Prabhakaran was an organiser and campaigner of ‘Bala Sangham,’ children’s wing of the Communist party and was a trade union leader.
Prabhakaran played a key role in organising toddy workers and farmers in the district and attracted them to the Communist movement.
He had represented Cherpu and Manalur in the Kerala Assembly and was MLA for 11 years and became Health Minister in 1978.
He was Chairman of the CPI’s control commission and remained state executive member of the party till end.
