Tokyo: Former Japanese defense minister has been shot in the leg near his home in northern Japan on Tuesday, reported Sankei newspaper.
81-yr-old, Tokuichiro Tamazawa served as defense minister in the government of Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama.
A man thought to be aged in his eighties has been arrested, national broadcaster NHK said.
Tamazawa’s injuries are not life-threatening, Sankei said.
