Former IAS officer Shah Faesal tries to justify his proposal after his tweet triggers controversy

J&K: Former IAS officer Shah Faesal recently proposed Nobel Peace Prize for Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Imran Khan. This proposal had come hours after Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who was released from Pakistan’s custody on Friday, reached Delhi.

Mr. Faesal tweeted, “A Nobel Peace Prize to @ImranKhanPTI could drastically change the way Pakistan operates in the South Asia region.

IK has already raised the bar for leadership in the region, and the Prize could encourage him to further nurture the India-Pak relationship.

He deserves the prize”.

Later, in an interview with Ms. Barkha Dutt, Mr. Faesal tried to justify his proposal and said that Imran Khan deserves the Nobel Peace Prize as he took a step to deescalate tensions between India and Pakistan.

In his nearly half an hour conversation with Ms. Barkha Dutt, he stressed on the need for India and Pakistan to start a dialogue and urged both the countries to fight against terrorism.

Talking about terrorism, Mr. Faesal said that if India uses diplomacy, Masood will land in jail.
