Chennai, August 29: Former Minister and DMK Erode district secretary N K K P Raja on August 28 filed an anticipatory bail petition in the Madras High Court following the issuing of a warrant against him in connection with a land-grabbing and kidnapping case at Perundurai.
A complaint was filed in 2008 with the Perundurai police against Mr Raja for kidnapping a landlord, K C Palanisamy, his wife Malarvizhi and son Sivabalan. The complainant K C Guhamani, Mr Palanisamy’s brother, had also alleged that the property had been looted.
Mr Raja was subsequently dropped from the Cabinet and the case transferred to the CB CID. He was charge-sheeted by the CB CID, and a warrant was issued by the Perundurai judicial magistrate against him on August 26.
Mr Raja stated that his name was not mentioned in the First Information Report(FIR) and that he did not have any role in the incident. The other accused had been granted bail and the police had recovered the properties and examined witnesses and filed a final report. Hence there was no need to arrest him.
Justice K N Basha heard the petition and posted the matter for hearing on August 31.
